The great outdoors…
***EDIT*** We first posted this article on our Instagram profile on 19th July 2019. COVID-19 has had huge effects on the outdoor use of public space, and the instances of allowable outdoor training at this time***
It’s that time of year, the sun is out, the days are warmer and longer, and outside WODs are calling your name.
But if you want to take your affiliate class out to the local park, have you checked with the council to see if you need a permit?
Many councils now charge a fee for parks to be used for commercial use, particularly fitness related (although even dog walking businesses now have to sign up to a code of conduct in some places). Some also want to see proof of insurance. Some councils limit the number of businesses that can use the park and times of use in order to promote fair access and enjoyment for all park users. Others charge a fee for upkeep of park amenities.
There could even be the chance that the land you are using is privately owned and not public at all – worth finding out beforehand!
Keeping councils informed and paying your dues shows you to be a reputable business. Holding classes without permission can expose your business to potential fines and a poor reputation.
Get agreements in writing and keep them on file.
