Check before use…

How often do you check your equipment for loose bolts?

Over time, vibrations and general movements during use can cause bolts to become loose in gym machinery and equipment. This can present risks in 2 ways – either through bolts falling out/off and so decreasing the structural stability and safety of equipment, or through mechanical shear forces from increased torques. In this second situation it can cause weaknesses that eventually result in pieces of machinery shearing off.

These risks can appear to be quite sudden to occur, but the reality is that when equipment is properly and regularly maintained, any loose bolts are caught quickly and tightened up. It takes time for safety issues such as these to come to light and can be a sign of poor equipment maintenance.

A quick check before each use, and further quick checks daily and weekly are all that is needed. And of course, taking action if anything is found to be loose. Keeping records of these checks shows accountability and can also help identify trends needing further attention.
